Proven Results with Teradata and DMExpress

Compared to 12 months ago we've been seeing quite a few enquiries from prospective customers needing to load an increasing amount of data, from more data feeds, in less time to their Teradata warehouse. One question I fielded recently came from a gentleman who was aware that pre-processing can be a valuable step in keeping data load times down on Teradata, and was curious to hear what kind of feedback Syncsort was getting for DMExpress it's high-speed data integration and ETL tool, at Teradata sites.

DMExpress was recently selected by Silverton Casino Lodge in Las Vegas to quickly extract and load data from its 15 heterogeneous source systems into a Teradata warehouse after performing numerous complex transformations in preparation for analytics and predictive modelling.

Troy Freet who leads data warehousing initiatives at Silverton Casino Lodge said “The other products we evaluated were either too expensive or not engineered for performance. DMExpress was the only product that hit the mark. It was also so easy to use that we were able to implement within two days and saved a lot of money by not having to hire an additional ETL consultant to write task scripts.”

Everything in Las Vegas is done on such a large scale - Silverton Casino Lodge features a 117,000 gallon (442,893 litre) saltwater reef aquarium with more than 5,000 tropical fish, sharks, and stingrays (named the “Best Free Attraction” in Las Vegas).

But when it comes to IT investments, price and performance are extremely important - “At Silverton Casino Lodge there is a direct correlation between the price-performance quality of DMExpress and our ability to make sound data-driven business decisions,” said Kirk Golding, VP of Information Technology. “The speed, flexibility, and ease of use of DMExpress enable us to deliver data quickly and accurately to users at a low cost. We've also seen a real return on investment for our data warehousing initiative. Our payback period for DMExpress was less than 6 months and deployment times were reduced by over 25% compared to using Microsoft SSIS.”

With this kind of feedback, and some further discussion about the technical requirements of DMExpress, our prospective customer was happy to proceed with a Proof of Concept to test the benefits of DMExpress for himself, using his own test data and IT environment - and the results to date have been extremely positive.
